Cara Install VMware 5.0 Workstation Pada SUSE Linux 10.2

Berikut akan dijelaskan bagaimana setup VMWare 5 di linux. Disini saya gunakan distro linux Suse 10.2. Hal yang perlu disiapkan adalah :

• VMware 5.0 workstation
• vmware-any-any-update108.tar.gz

Bisa didownlaod di http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/vmware-any-any-update108.tar.gz

• kernel-source
• gcc
• gcc-c++
• make

Untuk langkah-langkah adalah sebagai berikut :

1. Insatal masing-masing paket yaitu kernel-source, gcc, gcc-c++ dari Yast (Untuk make biasanya suadh terinstal sebagai default).
2. Kemudian jalankan perintah berikut :

# cd /usr/src/linux

# make cloneconfig; make prepare-all

3. Install VMWare dengan perintah berikut :

# rpm -ivh VMware-workstation-5.0.0-xxxxx.i386.rpm

(VMware-workstation-5.0.0-xxxxx.i386.rpm – > Sesuaikan dengan VMWare yang anda punya)

4. Copy file tarball ke folder Opt dan ekstrak file vmware-any-any-update108.tar.gz

ekstrak dengan perintah berikut

# tar -xzf vmware-any-any-update108.tar.gz
5. Masuk ke folder hasil ektrak

# cd vmware-any-any-update108.tar.gz

# .runme.pl

Selama proses intallasi, anda bisa melewati semacam aturan dengan perintah :q , Kemuadian lanjutkan sampai selesai. Berikut yang akan muncul saat intsallasi

• The file /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vmmon.tar that this script was about to install already exists. Overwrite? [yes]
• The file /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/vmnet.tar that this script was about to
  install already exists. Overwrite? [yes]
• Before running VMware for the first time after update, you need to configure it
  for your running kernel by invoking the following command: “/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl”. Do you want this script to invoke the command for you now? [yes]
• You must read and accept the End User License Agreement to continue.
  Press enter to display it.
• Do you accept? (yes/no) yes
• In which directory do you want to install the mime type icons?
  [/usr/share/icons]
• What directory contains your desktop menu entry files? These files have a
  .desktop file extension. [/usr/share/applications]
• In which directory do you want to install the application’s icon?
  [/usr/share/pixmaps]
• None of the pre-built vmmon modules for VMware Workstation is suitable for your running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmon module for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]
• What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running
  kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]
• Do you want networking for your virtual machines? (yes/no/help) [yes]
• Do you want to be able to use NAT networking in your virtual machines? (yes/no)[yes]
• Do you want this program to probe for an unused private subnet? (yes/no/help)[yes]
• Do you wish to configure another NAT network? (yes/no) [no]
• Do you want to be able to use host-only networking in your virtual machines?
  [yes]
• Do you want this program to probe for an unused private subnet? (yes/no/help)[yes]
• Do you wish to configure another host-only network? (yes/no) [no]
• The configuration of VMware Workstation 5.0.0 build-13124 for Linux for this
  running kernel completed successfully.You can now run VMware Workstation by invoking the following command:
  “/usr/bin/vmware”.

Jika sudah selesai, maka shortcut akan ditaruh di System > More Programs.
